The National Social Anxiety Center (NSAC) conducted this clinical education webinar on February 6, 2023. Dr Julie DiMatteo. PhD ABPP, representing NSAC North Jersey (CBT Specialists of New Jersey), discusses co-occurring social anxiety disorder (SAD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She reviews terminology and prevalence of ASD, elucidates the pathway from ASD to SAD, and discusses treatment considerations for SAD among autistic individuals.
Dr. Julie DiMatteo is board certified in behavioral and cognitive psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. She is the co-founder of CBT Specialists of New Jersey, a group practice that provides CBT for anxiety, depression and OCD. Dr. DiMatteo received her PhD in clinical psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she served as a coordinator for the COMPASS Program, managing a comprehensive academic and social support program, and providing individual and group therapy for college students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She also received extensive graduate and postdoctoral training in CBT and ERP for anxiety, OCD, and body-focused repetitive behaviors, and she is certified in PEERS for providing evidence-based social skills to young adults with ASD. Dr. DiMatteo serves on the board of the National Social Anxiety Center (NSAC), is licensed in NY and NJ, and is authorized to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology through PSYPACT.
