THE USE OF VIRTUAL REALITY IN SOCIAL ANXIETY TREATMENT

The National Social Anxiety Center (NSAC) conducted this one-hour clinical education webinar on May 12, 2023. Dr. Andrew Rosen, PhD, ABPP and Dr. Eric Spinner, PsyD, both from NSAC South Florida (The Center for Treatment of Anxiety and Mood Disorders), discuss the use of virtual reality to enhance exposure therapy for social anxiety disorder. The speakers review a brief history of exposure therapy for social anxiety, explain how their clinic utilizes virtual reality for exposures, provide a demo of their VR platform, and answer questions from the audience.

Dr. Andy Rosen, PhD, ABPP is the founder and clinical director of the Center for Treatment of Anxiety and Mood Disorders (NSAC South Florida Regional Clinic) and co-founder of The Children’s Center for Psychiatry, Psychology and Related Services, both in Delray Beach, FL. He is board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), is a Clinical Fellow of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), and is a Diplomate and Fellow in the American Academy of Clinical Psychology (FAACP). Dr. Rosen was appointed a Clinical Affiliate Assistant Professor at the FAU College of Medicine in November 2021.

Dr. Eric Spinner, PsyD is a postdoctoral fellow specializing in providing evidence-based treatment for eating disorders, anxiety, and depression through individual therapy, partner and family therapy, and group therapy across the lifespan. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, and he completed his clinical internship at the Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders in Coconut Creek, FL. In addition to utilizing CBT, DBT, and ACT, he holds a certificate in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy.
