An Emeritus Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, Dr. David M. Clark, DPhil is one of the foremost experts in the world on the nature and psychological treatment of social anxiety disorder as well as other anxiety-related problems. Dr. Clark has also developed and conducted extensive research on a comprehensive, individually tailored treatment protocol for social anxiety disorder known as Cognitive Therapy for Social Anxiety Disorder (CT-SAD), which in several decades of research has emerged as one of the most effective and most well supported treatments for individuals struggling with social anxiety. Information and resources related to this treatment can be accessed for free at the website of the Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma, OxCADAT.

In this interview, Dr. Clark is joined by Dr. Daniel Chazin, PhD, ABPP, director of the Center for Anxiety, OCD, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (NSAC Philadelphia), and NSAC Board Member and Secretary.

In this discussion, Dr. Clark discusses the joys, challenges, and intricacies of work with social anxiety disorder and of the treatment methods he has pioneered over the years, and distinctions from other therapy approaches in the field (such as traditional exposure-based approaches). He also discusses research on the effectiveness of CT-SAD, its adaptations for adolescent clients, and remote and internet-based delivery; and considerations relating to the use of this therapy with individuals with multiple psychological challenges and with diverse populations.
